How to Change the Spawn Rate on Your Soulmask Server
Learn how to adjust the creature and NPC spawn rates on your Soulmask server from the RiverHosting panel so you can tune the challenge level for your tribe.
Spawn rates control how often creatures, enemies, and NPCs appear in the world of Soulmask. Raising the spawn rate makes the world feel busier and more dangerous, while lowering it gives your tribe more breathing room to build and explore. You can adjust these settings directly from the RiverHosting panel without editing any files by hand.
Before you start
- You need an active Soulmask server on your RiverHosting account.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com and open your Soulmask server.
- It is a good idea to stop your server before making configuration changes so the settings are read correctly on the next startup.
Changing spawn settings requires a server restart. Make sure your players have saved and logged out before you apply changes.
1. Open the Server Config page
The Server Config page is where you change most gameplay settings for your Soulmask server, including spawn-related options.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
- Click on your Soulmask server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Server Config.
- The Server Config page will open with a list of settings you can adjust.
The Server Config page lets you change spawn rates and other settings using simple fields. You do not need to edit any configuration files manually.
2. Adjust the spawn rate settings
Once you are on the Server Config page, look for the spawn rate options. These typically control how frequently enemies and wildlife appear across the game world.
- Scroll through the Server Config page to find the spawn rate or NPC spawn multiplier fields.
- Enter a higher value to increase how often creatures spawn, or a lower value to reduce it.
- A value of
1.0is usually the default and represents the standard spawn rate. - Values above
1.0increase spawn frequency, and values below1.0decrease it. - When you are happy with your changes, click Save or the equivalent save button at the bottom of the page.
Setting the spawn multiplier to 2.0 will roughly double the rate at which creatures appear. Setting it to 0.5 will halve it. Start with small adjustments and test from there.
3. Restart your server to apply the changes
Spawn rate changes only take effect after the server is restarted. The settings are read when the server boots up, so a restart is required to apply them.
- Go back to your server's main page in the panel.
- Click the Restart button to restart the server.
- Wait for the server to come back online. You can watch the startup progress in the Console tab.
- Once the server is running, log in to Soulmask and check whether the spawn rate feels right for your group.
Spawn rate preferences vary a lot between groups. Try one setting for a session or two before making further adjustments so you get a feel for the difference.
Troubleshooting
- The spawn rate does not seem to have changed. Make sure you clicked Save before restarting. If you closed the page without saving, your changes were not applied. Go back to Server Config and re-enter the values.
- The server is not starting after the change. An invalid value in a config field can prevent the server from starting. Return to Server Config and check that the spawn rate fields contain a valid number such as
1.0or1.5. Avoid leaving fields blank or entering non-numeric characters. - Changes apply in some areas but not others. Some areas of the Soulmask world may have fixed spawns that are not affected by the multiplier. This is expected behaviour for certain zones.
- Players were mid-session when the restart happened. Remind your players to log out and save before you apply config changes to avoid any lost progress.
