How to Change the Cluster Settings on Your Soulmask Server
Learn how to configure the cluster settings on your Soulmask server from the RiverHosting panel so you can link multiple servers together and give your players a bigger world to explore.
Soulmask supports a cluster system that lets you link multiple game servers together under one shared world. When clustering is set up correctly, players can travel between connected servers without losing their progress. This guide walks you through how to configure the cluster settings on your Soulmask server from the RiverHosting panel.
Before you start
- You need an active Soulmask server on your RiverHosting panel.
- If you want to link two or more servers together, you will need a separate server for each node in the cluster. Each server must be managed from your panel individually.
- Make a backup of your server before making cluster changes. Go to Backups in the left-hand menu and create a new backup so you have a safe restore point.
- Your server must be stopped before saving major cluster configuration changes. You can stop it by clicking the Stop button at the top of your server page.
Changing cluster settings while the server is running can cause configuration conflicts or data issues. Always stop the server before applying cluster changes.
1. Open the Cluster settings page
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
- Select your Soulmask server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Cluster. This opens the cluster configuration page for your server.
The Cluster page is where you configure how your Soulmask server connects with other servers in a cluster group. You can set a shared cluster ID, choose whether this server acts as a primary or secondary node, and control how player data transfers between servers.
2. Configure your cluster settings
- On the Cluster page, look for the cluster ID or cluster name field. This value must be the same across every server that belongs to the same cluster group. If each server has a different cluster ID, they will not recognise each other.
- Set the cluster ID to a unique name or code that identifies your group of servers. Use something short and consistent, such as a name that matches your community or server brand.
- If the page includes options for server role or node type, choose whether this server is your main entry point or a secondary world server in the cluster.
- Review any additional options shown on the page, such as transfer cooldowns or cross-server player data settings, and adjust them to match your intended setup.
- Once you are happy with your settings, click the Save button to apply the changes.
Copy the cluster ID from your first server and paste it into each additional server exactly as written. Even a small difference in capitalisation or spacing will prevent the servers from linking correctly.
3. Repeat the setup on each server in the cluster
- Go back to your server list on the panel and open your second Soulmask server.
- Click Cluster in the left-hand menu on that server.
- Enter the same cluster ID you used on your first server.
- Adjust any role or node settings to match how you want that server to function within the cluster.
- Click Save.
- Repeat this process for every server you want to include in the cluster.
The RiverHosting panel manages each server independently. You need to visit the Cluster page for each server individually and apply the matching settings on all of them.
4. Start your servers and verify the cluster connection
- Start each server in the cluster by clicking the Start button at the top of the server page.
- Give each server a minute or two to fully load.
- Connect to one of the servers in-game and check whether the cluster link is working as expected. Most cluster setups include an in-game interface or travel point that shows available connected servers.
- If players can see and travel to the other servers in your cluster, the setup is working correctly.
Once players can see and travel between your linked Soulmask servers, your cluster is working. Any changes to cluster settings after this point should always be made with the servers stopped first.
Troubleshooting
- Servers are not recognising each other. Double-check that the cluster ID is identical on every server, including capitalisation and spacing. Even one character difference will break the link.
- Players cannot transfer between servers. Make sure all servers in the cluster are running at the same time. A server that is offline cannot receive or send player transfers.
- Settings are not saving. Make sure your server is fully stopped before saving cluster changes. Saving while the server is running can sometimes result in the settings being overwritten on the next launch.
- The Cluster page is missing options I expected. The options shown on the Cluster page depend on your server configuration. If you are unsure what a setting does, reach out to support before changing it.
- Something broke after changing cluster settings. Restore your server from the backup you created before starting. Go to Backups in the left-hand menu, find the backup, and use the restore option to roll back.
