How to Add and Manage Admins on Your Sons Of The Forest Server

    3 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to add admins to your Sons Of The Forest server using the RiverHosting panel so trusted players can help manage and moderate your game.

Running a Sons Of The Forest server with friends is a lot more enjoyable when you have trusted players who can help keep things in order. Admins on your server can use in-game commands, manage other players, and help you moderate the experience without needing full access to your RiverHosting panel.

This guide walks you through how to add and remove admins on your Sons Of The Forest server using the built-in tools in the RiverHosting panel. No file editing or technical knowledge required.

    Before you start

    • You need an active Sons Of The Forest server with RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, you can order at riverhosting.com.
    • You need the Steam ID (also called SteamID64) of any player you want to make an admin. This is a long number that uniquely identifies a Steam account. The player can find it by visiting steamid.io and entering their Steam profile URL.
    • Your server should be stopped or restarted after making admin changes so they take effect cleanly.
    What can admins do?

Admins on a Sons Of The Forest server can use in-game console commands, kick or ban players, and access other moderation tools built into the game. They do not get access to your RiverHosting panel.

    1. How to add an admin to your Sons Of The Forest server

The RiverHosting panel includes a dedicated Owners and Admins page for Sons Of The Forest servers. This is the easiest way to manage who has admin access in-game.

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Select your Sons Of The Forest server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Owners & Admins.
    4. You will see a section for admins. Look for the option to add a new admin entry.
    5. Enter the SteamID64 of the player you want to make an admin.
    6. Save your changes.
    7. Restart your server so the new admin entry takes effect.
    Where to find a SteamID64

Ask the player to visit steamid.io, paste in their Steam profile URL, and copy the number shown in the SteamID64 field. It looks something like 76561198000000000.

    2. How to add an owner to your Sons Of The Forest server

Sons Of The Forest also supports a separate owner role. Owners have the highest level of in-game authority and can use commands that regular admins cannot. The process for adding an owner is the same as adding an admin.

    1. Go back to the Owners & Admins page in the left-hand menu.
    2. Locate the owners section, separate from the admins section.
    3. Enter the SteamID64 of the player you want to assign as an owner.
    4. Save your changes.
    5. Restart your server for the changes to take effect.
    Choose owners carefully

The owner role gives a player very broad in-game control. Only assign this role to someone you fully trust, such as yourself or a co-host.

    3. How to remove an admin or owner from your Sons Of The Forest server

If you need to remove someone's admin or owner access, you can do that from the same page.

    1. Open the Owners & Admins page in the left-hand menu.
    2. Find the SteamID64 entry you want to remove.
    3. Delete or remove that entry.
    4. Save your changes.
    5. Restart your server so the removal takes effect.
    Changes need a restart

Admin and owner changes are loaded when the server starts up. Always restart your server after making any changes on the Owners and Admins page to make sure they apply correctly.

    Troubleshooting

    • The player says they still do not have admin access in-game. Make sure you restarted the server after saving the changes. Admin entries are only applied on server startup.
    • The SteamID64 was rejected or did not save. Double-check that you are using the correct SteamID64 format. It should be a 17-digit number. Avoid copying a display name, profile URL, or any other ID format.
    • The Owners and Admins page is not visible. Make sure your server is running Sons Of The Forest. If the page is missing, contact RiverHosting support for help.
    • Admin commands are not working in-game. Some commands require the player to open the in-game console. Make sure the player knows how to access it within Sons Of The Forest.
