How to Manage Worlds and Saves on Your Enshrouded Server
Learn how to manage your Enshrouded server worlds and save files from the RiverHosting panel so your progress stays safe and easy to restore.
Enshrouded saves your world progress automatically as you and your players explore, build, and survive. Knowing where those save files live and how to manage them from the RiverHosting panel means you can keep your progress safe, swap between world states, or recover quickly if something goes wrong.
Before you start
- You need an active Enshrouded server with RiverHosting.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com and open your Enshrouded server.
- It is a good idea to stop your server before moving or replacing save files to avoid file conflicts.
Always stop your Enshrouded server before deleting, replacing, or moving world save files. Making changes while the server is running can cause your saves to become corrupted or overwritten.
1. Where Enshrouded stores your world saves
Your Enshrouded world data is stored in a folder inside your server files. You can browse and manage these files directly from the File Manager in the RiverHosting panel.
- Open your server in the RiverHosting panel.
- Click Files in the left-hand menu to open the File Manager.
- Look for the
savegamefolder. This is where Enshrouded keeps your active world data. - Inside that folder you will find one or more save files for your world.
Enshrouded save files use a consistent naming format. Before making changes, take note of the file names so you can restore the correct one if needed.
2. How to download a copy of your world save
Downloading your save file gives you a local backup you can keep on your own computer. This is useful before making big changes, updating the server, or wiping and starting fresh.
- Stop your server from the panel.
- Go to Files in the left-hand menu.
- Navigate to the
savegamefolder. - Right-click the save file you want to download, or use the three-dot menu next to it, and select Download.
- Save the file somewhere safe on your computer.
If you ever plan to reset your Enshrouded world, always download a copy of your save first. You can use it to restore progress if you change your mind later.
3. How to upload and replace a world save
If you want to restore a previous save or load a save from another source, you can upload it through the File Manager.
- Stop your server.
- Go to Files and navigate to the
savegamefolder. - Click Upload and select your save file from your computer.
- If a file with the same name already exists, confirm that you want to overwrite it.
- Once the upload finishes, start your server again.
Replacing a save file overwrites whatever was there before. If you are not sure, download the existing save first so you have a copy before uploading the new one.
4. How to use Backups to protect your world
The RiverHosting panel includes a built-in Backups feature that creates a snapshot of your entire server, including your world save. This is the safest way to protect your progress on a regular basis.
- Click Backups in the left-hand menu.
- Click Create Backup to take a snapshot of your server right now.
- Give the backup a name that makes it easy to identify later, such as the current date or a description like Before major build.
- Click Create to start the backup process.
- Once the backup appears in the list, it is saved and ready to restore from at any time.
You can use the Schedules page to run a backup automatically on a regular schedule, such as every day or before every restart. This means you always have a recent snapshot without needing to remember to do it manually.
5. How to restore your world from a backup
If something goes wrong with your world, you can roll back to any saved backup from the panel.
- Go to Backups in the left-hand menu.
- Find the backup you want to restore from in the list.
- Click the three-dot menu next to that backup and select Restore.
- Confirm the restore when prompted.
- Wait for the process to complete, then start your server.
Restoring a backup replaces your current server files with the version from that snapshot. Any progress made after that backup was created will be lost.
Troubleshooting
- My world progress is missing after a restart. Check that your save files are in the correct folder inside the File Manager. If the folder is empty or the files are misnamed, the server may have generated a new world instead of loading the existing one.
- I cannot see my save files in the File Manager. Make sure your server has started at least once and has had time to generate the initial save. If the
savegamefolder does not appear, try restarting the server and checking again. - My uploaded save is not loading. Confirm the file name matches exactly what Enshrouded expects. File names are case-sensitive. If you are unsure, start the server once to let it create a fresh save, note the file name, stop the server, then upload your save file using the same name.
- My backup restore failed. Wait a moment and try again. If it continues to fail, contact RiverHosting support for assistance.
