How to Enable and Configure a Password on Your Enshrouded Server

    3 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to set a password on your Enshrouded server using the RiverHosting panel so only invited players can join your survival world.

By default, your Enshrouded server is open to anyone who knows its address. Setting a password is the easiest way to keep your world private and make sure only the people you invite can join. You can do this in just a few steps from the RiverHosting panel without editing any files.

    Before you start

    • You need an active Enshrouded server with RiverHosting. Log in at panel.riverhosting.com to get started.
    • Your server must be running before the password change takes effect. You will need to restart it after saving.
    • Let your friends know the new password before you apply it, otherwise they will not be able to connect.
    Restart required

The password will not take effect until you restart your server. Any players currently connected will be disconnected when you do.

    1. Open the Server Config page

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
    2. Click on your Enshrouded server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Server Config. This page gives you access to the most common server settings, including the password option.
    Can't see Server Config?

Make sure you are on your Enshrouded server and not a different game. The left-hand menu changes depending on which game your server is running.

    2. Set your server password

    1. On the Server Config page, look for the password field. It is usually labelled something like Server Password or Join Password.
    2. Type in the password you want to use. Choose something your friends can easily share but that strangers are unlikely to guess.
    3. Click Save to apply the change.
    Password tips

Keep your password short and easy to type. Avoid special characters that might cause confusion when sharing it verbally or in chat.

    3. Restart your server to apply the change

    1. After saving, go back to your server's main page.
    2. Click the Restart button at the top of the page.
    3. Wait for the server to come back online. This usually takes less than a minute.
    4. Once the server is running, any player who tries to join will be prompted to enter the password before they can connect.
    Password is now active

Once your server restarts, the password is live. Anyone joining without the correct password will be blocked from entering your world.

    4. Share the password with your players

Your friends will see a password prompt when they try to join. They just need to enter the password you set and they will connect as normal.

If you need to find your server's connection details, go to the Network page in the left-hand menu. This shows your server's IP address and port, which your players need along with the password.

    Sharing connection details

You might send your players something like: "Join at 123.45.67.89:15636, password: campfire2024". They enter the IP and port in the Enshrouded server browser and type in the password when prompted.

    5. How to remove or change the password later

    1. Go back to Server Config in the left-hand menu.
    2. To change the password, clear the existing value and type in the new one, then click Save.
    3. To remove the password entirely, clear the password field so it is blank, then click Save.
    4. Restart the server again for the change to take effect.
Removing the password opens your server

If you clear the password and restart, anyone with your server address will be able to join without any authentication. Make sure this is intentional before saving.

    Troubleshooting

    • Players still can not connect after setting a password. Make sure you clicked Save before restarting. If you restarted first, go back to Server Config, confirm the password is still saved, and restart again.
    • The password prompt is not appearing for players. Check that the server has fully restarted. Open the Console tab to confirm the server is online and not still starting up.
    • A player enters the correct password but still can not join. Ask them to double-check for extra spaces or incorrect capitalisation. Passwords are usually case-sensitive.
    • The password field is missing from Server Config. Try refreshing the panel page. If it is still missing, contact support as there may be a configuration issue with your server.
    • You forgot your own password. Go to Server Config, clear the field, save, and restart to remove it. Then set a new one.
