How to Add and Manage Admins on Your Squad Server

    4 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to add and manage admins on your Squad server using the RiverHosting panel so you can keep your server organised and under control.

Running a Squad server takes more than just switching it on. As your community grows, you will want trusted players to help you manage matches, enforce rules, and keep things running smoothly. The RiverHosting panel makes it straightforward to add admins and assign them the right level of access without editing any files by hand.

    Before you start

    • You need an active Squad server on your RiverHosting account. Log in to the panel at panel.riverhosting.com to get started.
    • You will need the Steam ID (64-bit SteamID64) of any player you want to promote to admin. Players can find their own SteamID64 by visiting a site such as steamid.io and entering their Steam profile URL.
    • Decide in advance what level of access each admin needs. Squad uses named permission groups, so you can give different admins different powers.
    Find a player's SteamID64 quickly

Ask your players to open Steam, go to their profile, click the three-dot menu, and choose "Copy Page URL". They can paste that URL into steamid.io to get their SteamID64 instantly.

    1. Open the Admins page for your Squad server

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Select your Squad server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Admins.

The Admins page is where you manage all administrator entries for your server. From here you can add new admins, assign permission groups, and remove admins who no longer need access.

    2. Add a new admin

    1. On the Admins page, look for the option to add a new admin entry.
    2. Enter the player's SteamID64 in the relevant field.
    3. Assign a permission group to the player. Common groups include roles such as superadmin, admin, or moderator, depending on how your server is configured. Choose the group that matches the level of access you want to give.
    4. Optionally, add a comment or label so you can identify which player this entry belongs to. This is useful when managing a larger team.
    5. Save your changes.
    What do permission groups control?

Permission groups in Squad determine what commands an admin can run in-game, such as kicking players, changing maps, managing squads, or accessing the admin camera. The specific group names available depend on your server configuration.

    3. Understand admin permission groups

Squad uses a group-based permission system. Each group is assigned a set of capabilities, and each admin belongs to one group. Here is a rough guide to what different permission levels typically allow:

    • superadmin: Full access to all admin commands, including changing maps, kicking, banning, and using the admin camera.
    • admin: A broad set of moderation tools, usually including kick, ban, and map control.
    • moderator: A lighter role, often limited to kicking players and basic in-game moderation without map or server control.
    Be careful with superadmin access

Only give superadmin permissions to people you fully trust. A superadmin can make significant changes to your running server, including ending matches and banning players.

If you want to customise the exact permissions each group has, you can do this by editing your server configuration files through the File Manager. However, for most servers the default groups are a good starting point and no file editing is needed to add admins through the panel.

    4. Remove or update an admin

    1. Go back to the Admins page in the left-hand menu.
    2. Find the admin entry you want to change.
    3. To remove the admin, delete their entry and save your changes.
    4. To change their permission level, update the group assigned to their entry and save.
    Changes take effect on restart

Admin changes made through the panel may require a server restart to take full effect. You can restart your server at any time using the restart button at the top of your server page.

    5. Apply your changes

    1. Once you have finished adding or updating admins, save all changes on the Admins page.
    2. Restart your server using the restart button at the top of the page so the new admin list is loaded.
    3. Ask your new admins to connect to the server and verify they have the expected in-game permissions.
    Admin setup complete

Once your server restarts, your new admins will have access to their assigned commands in-game. They can open the Squad admin menu by pressing the admin key while connected to the server.

    Troubleshooting

    • Admin commands are not working in-game. Make sure the server was restarted after saving the admin list. Changes do not apply to a live session without a restart.
    • The wrong SteamID64 was entered. Double-check the SteamID64 by asking the player to verify it again using their Steam profile URL. A single wrong digit will prevent the entry from matching.
    • The admin can connect but has no in-game powers. Check that the correct permission group was assigned. If the group name was typed incorrectly or the group does not exist in your server config, the player will connect without elevated permissions.
    • You cannot find the Admins page. Make sure you are viewing your Squad server specifically, as the Admins page is only available for Squad servers. If you manage multiple servers, double-check you have selected the right one from the server list.
    • You want to create a custom permission group. Custom groups need to be defined in your server configuration files. You can access those files through the File Manager in the left-hand menu. This is an advanced step and is not required for basic admin setup.
