How to Change the Torch Plugin Settings on Your Space Engineers Server

    3 min read·Updated Jul 22, 2026

Learn how to configure the Torch plugin settings on your Space Engineers server from the RiverHosting panel so you can fine-tune performance and server behaviour without editing files manually.

Space Engineers servers can run a plugin called Torch, which gives server owners extra tools for managing performance, running commands, and keeping the game stable for everyone online. The RiverHosting panel includes a dedicated Torch page so you can access these settings without touching any files by hand.

This guide walks you through finding the Torch page, understanding what it does, and making changes safely.

    Before you start

    • You need an active Space Engineers server with RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, visit riverhosting.com to get started.
    • Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com and open your Space Engineers server.
    • Torch works best on a running server, but you can review its settings at any time. Some changes require a server restart to take effect.
    • You do not need any Linux or programming knowledge to use this page. Everything is point and click.
    Back up before making changes

Before adjusting Torch settings, consider creating a backup of your server from the Backups tab. This lets you restore your setup quickly if something does not behave as expected.

    1. How to open the Torch page

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Click on your Space Engineers server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, look for the Torch option. It appears alongside the other Space Engineers-specific pages such as Server Config, Worlds & Backups, Crossplay, and Mods.
    4. Click Torch to open the Torch settings page.
    What is Torch?

Torch is a popular server management plugin for Space Engineers. It adds tools that help keep your server running smoothly, such as performance controls, cleanup commands, and more. The Torch page in the RiverHosting panel gives you a panel-based way to manage it.

    2. How to review and adjust Torch settings

Once you are on the Torch page, you will see the available configuration options for Torch. These typically include performance-related settings that affect how the server handles in-game activity.

    1. Read through the options shown on the Torch page. Each setting has a label describing what it controls.
    2. Click on the field or toggle you want to change and update the value.
    3. When you are happy with your changes, click the save button (usually labeled Save or Save Changes) at the bottom or top of the page.
    Start with small adjustments

If you are not sure what a setting does, try changing one thing at a time and then restart your server to see how it affects gameplay. This makes it easy to identify what helped or caused an issue.

    3. How to restart your server after making changes

Most Torch setting changes require a server restart before they take effect. Here is how to restart cleanly from the panel.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Console.
    2. Use the restart button at the top of the Console page, or type a restart command into the console input if your server supports it.
    3. Wait for the server to come back online. You can watch the console output to see when the server is ready for players to join.
    Give it a moment

Space Engineers servers can take a minute or two to fully start up, especially with Torch and mods loaded. Wait until the console shows that the server is ready before trying to connect.

    4. How to install or update Torch using the Mods page

If Torch is not yet active on your server, or if you want to make sure you have the latest version, you can manage it from the Mods page in the panel.

    1. In the left-hand menu, click Mods.
    2. Look for Torch in the list of available or installed mods.
    3. If Torch is not installed, find it in the available mods list and click the install or enable button.
    4. If it is already installed, check whether an update is available and apply it.
    5. Save your changes and restart the server so the updated version loads correctly.
    Torch version compatibility

Make sure the version of Torch you install is compatible with your current Space Engineers server version. Using an outdated or mismatched version of Torch may cause startup errors.

    Troubleshooting

    • The Torch page is not visible in the menu. Make sure your server is set up as a Space Engineers server. If you recently switched games using the Game Changer, the page should appear after the server has been fully configured. Contact support if it is still missing.
    • Changes are not taking effect. Most Torch settings require a full server restart. Go to the Console tab and restart your server, then check again.
    • The server is crashing after a Torch update. Try reverting to the previous Torch version from the Mods page, or restore a backup from the Backups tab to return to a working state.
    • Torch commands are not working in-game. Make sure Torch is fully loaded by checking the Console output after startup. If errors appear, the Torch version may not be compatible with the current server version.
    • You cannot find a specific Torch plugin option. Some advanced Torch plugin features are configured through separate plugin config files. You can access these from the File Manager if they are not shown on the Torch page.
