How to Change the Max Player Slot Count on Your Satisfactory Server
Learn how to change the maximum number of players allowed on your Satisfactory server from the RiverHosting panel so your factory team is always the right size.
By default, a Satisfactory dedicated server allows a small number of players to connect at once. If you want to open your factory up to a larger group of friends, or lock it down to just yourself, you can change the maximum player slot count directly from the RiverHosting panel. No file editing is required.
Before you start
- Make sure you have an active Satisfactory server with RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, you can order one at riverhosting.com.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Select your Satisfactory server from the server list.
Before making changes to your server settings, it is a good idea to let all active players save their progress and disconnect. Changing startup-related settings usually requires a server restart.
1. How to change the max player slot count using the Startup tab
The maximum player count on a Satisfactory server is controlled by a startup argument. You can change it easily from the Startup tab in the RiverHosting panel.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel and open your Satisfactory server.
- In the left-hand menu, click Startup.
- Look for the variable labelled something like Max Players or Maximum Players. This controls how many players can be connected to your server at the same time.
- Click the field and change the number to your preferred value. Common choices are
4for a small group or up to8or more for a larger team. - Once you have entered your new value, click Save or press Enter to confirm the change.
- Restart your server for the new player limit to take effect. You can do this by clicking Restart in the top area of your server page.
Satisfactory is best played with a small group. Most players run their servers with between 2 and 4 slots. Keep in mind that more simultaneous players can increase the load on your server, especially in large factories.
2. How to confirm the new player limit is working
After restarting your server, you can quickly check that the new player limit has been applied.
- Open the Console from the left-hand menu.
- Watch the startup log as the server initialises. You should see a line that references the maximum player count or connection limit in the output.
- Try joining the server yourself in Satisfactory to confirm everything is working as expected.
Your Satisfactory server is now configured with your new player limit. Friends can join up to that number at any time, and any extra connection attempts beyond the cap will be turned away automatically.
Troubleshooting
- The Startup tab does not show a Max Players field. Try refreshing the page. If the field still does not appear, reach out to RiverHosting support and they can check your server configuration.
- The player limit did not change after saving. Make sure you fully restarted the server after saving the Startup variable. A restart is required for startup arguments to take effect.
- Players are still being disconnected even below the limit. This can happen if your server is running low on resources. Check the Console for any error messages and consider whether your current plan supports the number of active players you want.
- The server crashes on restart after the change. If the server does not come back online, open the Console and look at the last few lines of output for any error message. You can also try reverting the Max Players value to its original setting and restarting again.
