How to Install and Manage Mods on Your Icarus Server
Learn how to install and manage mods on your Icarus server using the RiverHosting panel so you can expand your survival experience without touching any files manually.
Icarus supports server-side mods that can change how your world plays, add new content, or tweak existing systems. The RiverHosting panel gives you a dedicated Mods page for your Icarus server so you can manage mods in one place without editing any files by hand.
This guide walks you through finding, installing, and removing mods on your Icarus server step by step.
Before you start
- You need an active Icarus server on RiverHosting. Log in to the panel at panel.riverhosting.com to get started.
- Make sure your server is stopped before installing or removing mods. Changing mods while the server is running can cause errors or data loss.
- Players who connect to your server may also need the same mod installed on their own Icarus client, depending on the mod. Check the mod's description to confirm.
- It is a good idea to create a backup of your server before making any mod changes. Go to the Backups tab and create a fresh backup before you begin.
Always stop your server before installing or removing mods. Making changes while the server is live can cause crashes or corrupt your world data.
1. How to install mods on your Icarus server
The Mods page in the RiverHosting panel is the easiest way to add mods to your Icarus server. Here is how to use it:
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel and open your Icarus server.
- In the left-hand menu, click Mods.
- The Mods page will show you the mods currently installed on your server. To add a new mod, look for the option to browse or search for mods.
- Find the mod you want to install by searching its name or browsing the available list.
- Click the install button next to the mod you want to add.
- Wait for the panel to confirm that the mod has been installed successfully.
- Once all your mods are installed, start your server from the Console page using the Start button.
Some mods may not work well together. If your server fails to start after adding a new mod, try removing the most recently added mod first and then starting the server again to identify the conflict.
2. How to remove or disable a mod on your Icarus server
If a mod is causing problems or you simply want to run a cleaner server, removing it is straightforward from the same Mods page.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel and open your Icarus server.
- Stop your server if it is currently running.
- In the left-hand menu, click Mods.
- Find the mod you want to remove in the list of installed mods.
- Click the remove or uninstall button next to that mod.
- Confirm the removal when prompted.
- Start your server again once the mod has been removed.
Removing a mod does not automatically undo changes that mod already made to your world. If a mod added items or changed world structures, those effects may persist in your save data even after the mod is gone.
3. How to upload a mod manually using the File Manager
If a mod is not available through the Mods page and you have the mod files yourself, you can upload them manually using the File Manager.
- Stop your server first.
- In the left-hand menu, click Files to open the File Manager.
- Navigate to the folder where Icarus mods are stored. This is typically a folder named
Modsinside your server directory. If the folder does not exist, you can create it by clicking the New Folder button. - Click Upload and select your mod file from your computer.
- Wait for the upload to complete, then start your server.
Only install mods from sources you trust. Malicious or poorly made mod files can break your server or corrupt your world. When in doubt, check the Icarus modding community for well-reviewed mods.
Troubleshooting
- Server crashes on startup after adding a mod. Stop the server, go to the Mods page, and remove the mod you just added. Restart and see if the problem is resolved. The mod may be incompatible with your current server version or with another installed mod.
- Players cannot see the mod content in-game. Some Icarus mods need to be installed on each player's own game client as well. Check the mod's documentation to confirm whether it is client-side, server-side, or both.
- Mod does not appear after installation. Make sure the server was fully stopped before you installed the mod. Try stopping the server, then starting it again and checking the console for any error messages related to the mod.
- File Manager upload fails or the mod file is too large. Try a different browser, or check whether the file is a supported format. If the upload continues to fail, contact RiverHosting support for help.
- You are not sure which folder to use for the manual upload. Check the Console output when your server starts for any lines that reference the mods directory. That will confirm the correct path. If you are still unsure, support can help you identify the right location.
