How to Change the Whitelist Settings on Your Icarus Server
Learn how to manage the whitelist on your Icarus server from the RiverHosting panel so only the players you invite can join your prospects.
The whitelist on your Icarus server lets you control exactly who is allowed to join. When the whitelist is enabled, only players you have added will be able to connect. This is useful if you want to run a private server for friends or a closed group without worrying about random players dropping in.
You can manage the whitelist directly from the RiverHosting panel using the built-in Whitelist / Bans page. No file editing or command-line knowledge is needed.
Before you start
- Make sure you have an active Icarus server with RiverHosting.
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
- Know the in-game names or identifiers of the players you want to allow.
- Your server does not need to be stopped to make whitelist changes, but a restart is recommended after making changes so they take effect cleanly.
Before you start adding players, write down the exact usernames or Steam names of everyone you want to allow. Typos in a whitelist entry can prevent a player from joining.
1. How to open the Whitelist / Bans page
- Log in to the RiverHosting panel.
- Click on your Icarus server from the server list.
- In the left-hand menu, click Whitelist / Bans.
This page is your central place for managing who is allowed or blocked on your server. You will see separate sections for the whitelist and for banned players.
2. How to enable the whitelist
- On the Whitelist / Bans page, look for the whitelist toggle or enable option.
- Turn the whitelist on.
- Once enabled, only players on the whitelist will be able to connect to your server.
As soon as the whitelist is enabled, any player who is not on the list will be refused when they try to join. Make sure you have added all your regular players before enabling it.
3. How to add players to the whitelist
- On the Whitelist / Bans page, find the option to add a player to the whitelist.
- Enter the player's username or Steam identifier, depending on what the field asks for.
- Confirm the entry to save it.
- Repeat this for each player you want to allow.
If your friend's Steam name is SurvivalPro99, enter that exactly as it appears. Capitalization may matter depending on how the server matches entries.
4. How to remove a player from the whitelist
- On the Whitelist / Bans page, find the player you want to remove from the whitelist.
- Click the remove or delete option next to their entry.
- Confirm the removal.
That player will no longer be able to join once the change takes effect. Restart your server to make sure the change is applied cleanly.
5. How to disable the whitelist
If you want to open your server to anyone again, you can turn the whitelist off at any time.
- Go to Whitelist / Bans in the left-hand menu.
- Turn the whitelist toggle off.
- Restart your server from the panel to apply the change.
Disabling the whitelist does not delete the players you have added. If you turn it back on later, your existing list will still be there.
Troubleshooting
- A whitelisted player still cannot join. Double-check the spelling of their username on the Whitelist / Bans page. Even a small typo will prevent a match. Restart the server after making any changes.
- The whitelist does not seem to be blocking anyone. Confirm that the whitelist toggle is actually enabled and that you have restarted the server after turning it on.
- You cannot find the Whitelist / Bans page. Make sure you are on your Icarus server, not a different server in your panel. The left-hand menu is server-specific.
- A removed player can still connect. Restart the server after removing them. Some changes only take full effect after a fresh server start.
