How to Install and Manage Mods on Your Core Keeper Server

    4 min read·Updated Jul 21, 2026

Learn how to install and manage mods on your Core Keeper server using the RiverHosting panel so you and your friends can enjoy a customised experience right away.

Core Keeper supports mods that can add new content, change gameplay, or improve quality of life for everyone on your server. The RiverHosting panel includes a built-in Mods page that makes it easy to add and manage mods without touching any files manually.

This guide walks you through finding, installing, and managing mods on your Core Keeper server from start to finish.

    Before you start

    • You need an active Core Keeper server with RiverHosting. If you do not have one yet, visit riverhosting.com to get started.
    • Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    • Make sure your server is stopped before making changes to mods. This prevents file conflicts and ensures mods load correctly on the next startup.
    • All players who join your server may also need the same mods installed on their own game client, depending on the mod. Check each mod's description to confirm whether it is server-side only or requires a client install too.
    Stop your server first

Always stop your server before adding or removing mods. Making changes while the server is running can cause errors or corrupt your world.

    1. How to install mods using the Mods page

The Mods page in the RiverHosting panel is the easiest way to add mods to your Core Keeper server. You can browse and install mods directly without uploading files manually.

    1. Log in to the RiverHosting panel at panel.riverhosting.com.
    2. Click on your Core Keeper server from the server list.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Mods.
    4. Use the search bar to find the mod you want to install. You can search by mod name or browse the available list.
    5. When you find the mod you want, click the install button next to it.
    6. Wait for the panel to confirm the mod has been installed. This usually only takes a few seconds.
    7. Repeat for any additional mods you want to add.
    8. Once you have finished adding mods, start your server from the main server page.
    Check mod compatibility

If you are installing multiple mods, check that they are compatible with each other. Mod pages usually list any known conflicts or dependencies.

    2. How to remove or disable a mod

If a mod is causing problems or you simply no longer want it, you can remove it from the same Mods page.

    1. Stop your server if it is currently running.
    2. In the left-hand menu, click Mods.
    3. Find the mod you want to remove in your installed mods list.
    4. Click the remove or uninstall button next to the mod.
    5. Confirm the removal when prompted.
    6. Start your server again once the mod has been removed.
    World data from mods

Removing a mod that added items, structures, or world content may cause those things to disappear from your world. If you are unsure, take a backup before removing any mods.

    3. How to upload a mod manually using the File Manager

If a mod is not available through the built-in Mods page, you can upload it manually using the File Manager. This is the backup method and requires you to have the mod file downloaded to your computer first.

    1. Stop your server if it is currently running.
    2. Download the mod file from a trusted source such as the mod's official page.
    3. In the left-hand menu, click Files to open the File Manager.
    4. Navigate to the folder where Core Keeper mods are stored. This is typically inside a BepInEx/plugins folder within your server files.
    5. Click the upload button and select your mod file from your computer.
    6. Wait for the upload to complete, then start your server.
    Use trusted sources

Only download mods from well-known and trusted sources. Mods from unknown sites could contain harmful files. When in doubt, stick to the built-in Mods page.

    4. How to take a backup before making mod changes

Before you add or remove mods, it is a good idea to take a backup of your server. That way you can restore your world if anything goes wrong.

    1. Stop your server if it is running.
    2. In the left-hand menu, click Backups.
    3. Click the button to create a new backup and wait for it to complete.
    4. Once the backup is confirmed, proceed with your mod changes.
    Back up regularly

Getting into the habit of creating a backup before any major change, such as installing or removing mods, is a great way to protect your progress.

    Troubleshooting

    • Server fails to start after installing a mod: Stop your server, go to Mods, and remove the most recently added mod. Then start the server again to see if that was the cause. Check the Console for any error messages that might help identify the problem.
    • Mod is installed but not working in game: Make sure your server was fully stopped and restarted after installing the mod. Some mods also require the players connecting to have the same mod installed on their own game client.
    • Cannot find a specific mod in the Mods page: The mod may not be available through the panel's built-in installer. In that case, use the manual upload method described in section 3 above.
    • World content is missing after removing a mod: Content added by a mod is usually tied to that mod. Restoring a backup taken before the mod was removed is the best way to recover it. Go to Backups and use the restore option.
    • Mods are conflicting with each other: Try removing mods one at a time and restarting the server after each removal to find the conflict. Check the mod pages for known compatibility issues.
